Self Assessment Blog Post

During this semester, I found that Twitter was great for expressing my thoughts as a brand. I sometimes ran into the issue of having too many characters, but I took that as a challenge to express my ideas in a more concise way. The social media that presented the most issues was by far YouTube. I learned that I am very uncomfortable in front of the camera in an academic setting (which is ironic, because I do livestreams and talk to people on webcams every week). I was not at all expecting this issue, so I found my struggles really hurt my self esteem in my abilities as a student and as a brand. Over the course of the class my passion for menstrual health has only grown, but I think my idea as a brand has shifted. I found myself less interested in selling my classes, and instead became more interested in connecting with people online and sharing my ideas through social media. It became less about using my socials as a way to get people to buy my services, and more about using them to teach and to learn. In the future I would love to use the accounts that I made this semester to continue learning about menstrual health from those who know more than I do, and to spread the knowledge I have, and will continue to gain, to those who do not have the same information yet. My classmates really showed me the importance of connecting with your audience on social media. I found myself gravitating towards the brands that put more of themselves into the brand and I tried to include that in my posts as well. Human nature will try to find similarities between author and audience, so if I continue to present myself to the world, people who have similar interests and ideals will find their way to me. I think my biggest lesson about myself was to do with that as well. I think I have a gift for connecting to people. I am not embarrassed to share my own struggles or talk about stuff that some might consider weird (I have a story about discharge on my homepage after all, ha!) which I think helps people feel safe in the online space that I have created.
